União São João U20

União São João are playing in Série A3 of the Campeonato Paulista after winning promotion from Série A4 in 2023. The title ended a hiatus that had run from 2015 to 2021.

The name traces back to a sugar mill. Hermínio Ometto, who owned the Usina São João plant in Araras, founded the club on 14 January 1981, but the rules of Brazilian football at the time barred company names from club titles, so "Usina" was swapped for "União."

White and green, the colours of cane and sugar, gave the team its nickname, Verdão de Araras.

One academy name stands above the rest: Roberto Carlos played for União São João in 1991 and 1992.

União São João's honours begin with the Campeonato Paulista's A2 division, won in 1987, and Série C nationally the following year. The biggest of them came in 1996, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B title, with a runner-up finish in the state's top flight, Série A1, following in 2002.

The local derby is against Atlético Ararense, the city's other club; further afield, Comercial of Ribeirão Preto is the tougher name on the fixture list.

Home games are played at the Estádio Doutor Hermínio Ometto — the Herminião — named for the club's founder. Official capacity is 16,096, though the ground in Araras has held crowds of up to 22,000.
