Nilton De Sordi pulled on the black-and-white shirt for the first time in 1949. Nine years later he was a world champion with Brazil. Decades on, in 1995, a young midfielder called Doriva made the same step up at the same club, and by 1998 he had followed the same path all the way to a World Cup winner's medal of his own.

That is the story the academy still tells about itself. Today the pipeline runs through DNA XV Sub-20, the club's Under-20 side, entered in the Campeonato Paulista Sub-20 and in the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior. It feeds into the senior club, Esporte Clube XV de Novembro, founded in the city in 1913 and known ever since as Nhô Quim, which plays its home matches at the Estádio Municipal Barão da Serra Negra.

Other careers took different routes through the same gates. Chicão left the youth side in 1968 and became a Brazilian champion with São Paulo in 1977. Dadá Maravilha went the other way, arriving in Piracicaba in 1985 already carrying a World Cup medal won back in 1970. A goalkeeper, Fabiano, wore the shirt as recently as 2013.

Forty years separate De Sordi's medal from Doriva's.
