Estádio Presidente Vargas

Fortaleza's Bairro Benfica has its own municipal ground, and the Estádio Presidente Vargas has kept its name and its neighbourhood since 1941.

What sets it apart is how many clubs actually call it home. Ferroviário Atlético Clube has played there since it opened, and over the decades Fortaleza Esporte Clube, Ceará Sporting Club, América-CE and others have all shared the pitch, splitting fixtures between them according to the calendar and whatever safety rules apply that season.

A renovation running from 2008 to 2011 rebuilt the place from the historic façade inward — tunnels, dressing rooms, wiring, a new roof over the VIP section, glass barriers replacing the old fencing. One detail from that work has stuck: eight per cent of the seats went in orange, then had to be swapped for blue after rival supporters objected to the colour.

The record crowd is remembered two different ways depending on who is asked — a Ferroviário–Ceará derby in May 1989 on one count, a Ceará–Corinthians league match from August 1971 on another. Either way, the PV has been filling up and shaking with noise for a very long time.
