Estadio Sección XXIV
Salamanca, Mexico
What sets Estadio Sección XXIV apart is not its scale but its long association with the union that built it. The venue owes its name to the Sindicato de Trabajadores Petroleros de la República Mexicana, the Union of Petroleum Workers of the Mexican Republic, and for decades it has stood as the working-class heart of Salamanca, Guanajuato.
Football has been played here since the early days of the club Petroleros de Salamanca. The team has competed in the second tier, the fourth tier, and the third tier, always returning to this ground. Today the ground hosts Real Refineros F.C. CDS, another local side navigating the same path through the lower divisions.
The playing surface is natural grass, kept in condition despite the lack of modern facilities in some periods. There is no official record of the highest single-match attendance, though on occasions when the stakes were high, the covered stand has been full. The stadium has weathered the storm of maintenance issues and renovation cycles, but it remains a fixture in the city.
