Estadio Vilelas

Formerly: Estadio Único de Villa Mercedes, Estadio La Pedrera, Arena La Pedrera

The scoreboard often calls it Estadio Vilelas, but the arena is the Estadio Único. It went up on the initiative of the provincial government of San Luis, under Governor Alberto Rodríguez Saá, with work starting in April 2016 and the gates opening in July 2017. The architect behind it, Esteban Bonde, worked with four contractors on site — Lumma, Rovella-Carranza, Green SA and Alquimaq — to bring 28,000 seats out of what had been open ground.

San Luis owns it outright, and it functions as a neutral venue — hosting Copa Argentina fixtures and the finals of regional competitions. Club Atlético Jorge Newbery, the city's own side, plays its domestic football at the smaller Estadio Osvaldo Centioni and only shifts across town to La Pedrera when the occasion demands the bigger stage.

The pitch itself gets the kind of attention a venue without a resident groundsman's routine still needs: natural turf fed by an irrigation and drainage system built to collect and reuse rainwater. That upkeep has continued well past the opening — vertical mowing and aeration work in February 2026, followed by overseeding in April, the kind of maintenance record that suggests the province treats the surface as the asset worth protecting, even with no everyday tenant to answer to.
