F.N.B. Stadium

The soccer-specific ground on the South Shore is smaller and younger than anything else in Pittsburgh's sporting landscape, and that is more or less the point of it. Built with a single sport in mind, it opened on 13 April 2013 as home to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, at a time when the club had spent years shuttling between borrowed venues. The capacity started at 3,500 and was pushed to 5,000 five years on, a modest expansion that tracked the club's own growth rather than any bid for a bigger event.

What sets it apart locally is scale, not ambition. This is not a retrofitted football stadium wearing soccer markings for one night a year; it was built to hold a few thousand people close to a single pitch of natural grass, and it has stayed that size. The Riverhounds still call it home in the USL Championship, and the ground now also hosts Pittsburgh Riveters SC in the USL W League and the Thunderbirds of ultimate frisbee's UFA, three tenants sharing one compact venue rather than one team rattling around a stadium built for something larger.

The name changed in April 2026, when the naming rights passed from Highmark to F.N.B., a rebrand rather than a rebuild. The address on West Station Square Drive puts it on the South Shore, across the water from downtown, a short walk from the Monongahela rather than off a highway interchange. It remains, above all, a stadium sized for the crowd it actually draws.
