Fjölnisvöllur

Tucked into the Grafarvogur district on Reykjavík's northern edge, Fjölnisvöllur carries a second name that turns up almost as often as the official one: Dalhús, after the street and the neighbourhood that surround it. The ground belongs to Ungmennafélagið Fjölnir, and little about it suggests a venue built to impress outsiders — it reads instead as a club ground shaped from the district up.

The surface is artificial turf, a practical fit for a pitch that has to carry a club's youth and senior sides through Icelandic winters rather than host the odd showcase fixture. Capacity sits at just 1,030, a figure that says plainly what kind of ground this is: a neighbourhood pitch, not a stage built for crowds.

Fjölnir's football section traces back to 1988, when training began on a first pitch by Foldaskóli, the school at the centre of Grafarvogur — the same year now attached to the ground's history, even if the stadium's own construction date has slipped from the record. The address, Dalhúsum 2, has stayed fixed since, and the club still runs its affairs from fjolnir.is rather than any grander platform.
