Grindavíkurvöllur

Grindavíkurvöllur has spent most of the last two years empty for reasons that have nothing to do with football. The pitch sits in Grindavík, on the Reykjanes peninsula, and in 2024 the volcanic unrest that forced the evacuation of the whole town opened a deep crack beneath the surface of the ground. Inspectors did not clear it until May 2025, when the pitch — now generally known as Stakkavíkurvöllur — was declared fit again for training and matches.

That renaming history runs deeper than most Icelandic grounds. Between 2019 and 2023 it carried the sponsor's name, Mustad völlurinn, before reverting to a version of its older identity.

It opened on 17 June 2001, home to UMFG, with room for 1,750 — 1,450 seated, the rest standing. There is no dedicated club or stadium website; anything official runs through the municipality's own pages. Austurvegur remains the address on record, a natural grass pitch in a town whose population and stadium have, for the moment, both been waiting to see what the ground beneath them does next.
