GSP Stadium
It went up in Strovolos in 1999 to replace the old GSP ground in central Nicosia, and from the start it was built to be shared: the national team plays here, and so do APOEL and Omonia, taking turns as home side in the same bowl.
That sharing produced the record crowd. On 7 December 2002 the derby between APOEL and Omonia drew 23,043 through the gates for a match that finished goalless — the biggest crowd the ground has held. The European mark came a decade later, in March 2012, when APOEL saw off Lyon 1-0 after extra time in the Champions League round of 16 in front of 22,701.
The stadium has also stood in for grounds that couldn't be used. In 2002, Hapoel Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa played their home European fixtures here, Hapoel's UEFA Cup quarter-final against Milan among them, and in 2014 a Europa League tie between Dynamo Kyiv and Valencia was switched to Nicosia rather than played in Kyiv.
Away from football, the Scorpions played here in 2004, and on 3 December 2021 Pope Francis held an open-air mass on the pitch during his visit to Cyprus.
