Harjun Stadion

Harjun Stadion turned a hundred in 2026. The ground first opened under architect Toivo Salervo, and it has carried the same name ever since — no rebranding, no relocation.

The reconstruction, led by architect Ari Kautto and carried out by Peab Oy and Forssan Ympäristöurakointi Oy, cost €12 million from the city budget, topped up by a €750,000 grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture. Rather than clear the site, the builders kept part of the old 2000 grandstand — 275 of its seats — and grafted on a new block for 2,664. Fixed capacity now sits at around 2,939, though temporary stands can push the ground to 4,500–5,000 for a major meeting.

What changed underfoot matters as much as what changed to sit on: the running track now carries a World Athletics Class 2 certificate, and new floodlights went in alongside it. The stadium is back in full training in time for its own centenary, having already hosted the Kalevan Kisat national athletics championships in 2026, with the European Athletics Championships pencilled in for 2027.

The record crowd on record, 5,579, still belongs to a football match rather than an athletics meeting — JJK Jyväskylä against HJK Helsinki, 6 August 2011.
