Hawassa Stadium (Hawassa Kenema Stadium)
Hawassa's arena carries three names in its short life, and all of them still circulate — Hawassa International Stadium on official paper, Hawassa University Stadium in local usage, and Hawassa Kenema Stadium wherever the club that plays there is mentioned.
The stadium opened in 2015 as part of a nationwide push to build modern sporting venues across Ethiopia. Within months it was hosting continental football: the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup arrived that same year.
What the stadium has hosted outside football says as much about its role in Hawassa as the matches themselves. A political rally in 2018 drew a crowd reported at more than 60,000, and a concert by the musician Teddy Afro filled it out again on a similar scale.
The pitch is natural grass, laid out on Stadium Road in the Piassa area of Trufat.
