Sidama Bunna

Hawassa Stadium, also known as Hawassa Kenema Stadium, has long been listed as Sidama Bunna's home ground, a 25,000-capacity venue in the city that gives the club its name. Through the 2025/26 season, though, home fixtures were played elsewhere — at the Adama Science and Technology University Stadium and at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, both some distance from Hawassa. Earlier in its history the club had also played at Yirgalem Stadium, a ground holding barely 2,000.

The club was formed on 27 August 2006 as Dara Kenema, representing the Sidama zone, and by the end of that year had taken the name Sidama Coffee, rendered elsewhere as Sidama Bunna after the Amharic word for coffee. It plays in red and white and is known to supporters as Aliitos.

For most of its history in the Ethiopian Premier League, fourth place — reached in 2014/15 and again in 2016/17 — was as close as Sidama Bunna came to the title. That changed in 2025/26, when the club won the league for the first time. The Ethiopian Cup has been less kind: a final lost to Wolaitta Dicha in 2025, and another lost 0-2 to Welwalo Adigrat in 2026. Wolaitta Dicha is the opponent in what is known in Ethiopia as the Southern Derby. A decade earlier, in 2016, Sidama Bunna beat Arba Minch City 3-1 to win the South Castle Cup.

Yigezu Bogale came through the club's academy, joining at under-17 level in 2015 before becoming the Premier League's top scorer in 2021/22 and an Ethiopia international. Saladin Said, the national team's all-time leading scorer, spent the 2022/23 season at the club.

Sidama Bunna enter the new season as champions of Ethiopia, still without an Ethiopian Cup after two finals lost in successive years. Another slip in the cup is not something the club can afford again.
