Intility Arena

Vålerenga Stadion was the name it carried through construction.

The naming rights went to Intility only after the doors opened, a ten-year deal signed in October 2017 that put the current name on a stadium the fans had already started calling home under its old one. The pitch itself was laid to FIFA Quality Pro standard, an artificial surface with a green infill designed to hold up through the Oslo winter without the club needing to worry about a frozen or waterlogged surface come matchday.

Link Arkitekter won the design competition back in February 2009, well before HENT broke ground in August 2015, so the project sat on the drawing board for years before construction actually started. That gap between design and delivery is not unusual for Norwegian stadium projects, but it meant Vålerenga played out a long stretch of seasons waiting for a ground that matched the ambitions of a club with Oslo's biggest fanbase.

At just under 16,600 seats, it is not among Norway's largest arenas, but it gave Vålerenga something Bislett never could: a stadium built around one tenant, in a corner of the city, Valle Hovin, better known until then for its speed-skating oval than for football.
