Lekeythang Football Field

The ground sits above the Punatsangchu, on the shelf of land where the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu meet. That confluence is what fixes it: the pitch belongs to Punakha District, even though a share of match reports and databases file it under Wangdue Phodrang, and the mix-up has followed the venue through the record.

It works as a school ground first. Punakha Central School uses it, and Ugyen Academy FC play their football here — the venue has carried the name Ugyen Academy Stadium in some listings, which is part of why the paperwork has never quite settled. Tensung FC turn up attached to Lekeythang in places too, so the same patch of turf answers to more than one club depending on which record you open.

The artificial surface was upgraded in November 2023 with FIFA Forward money.

What happens on it is league football and district National Day celebrations, nothing heavier. The senior internationals and the finals go to Changlimithang in Thimphu, and Lekeythang has never been in that conversation. Capacity is one of the things the records cannot agree on, and the figures printed in various places sit far enough apart that none of them can be relied on.
