Punakha's team spent the 2020 season chasing the Bhutan Premier League title and finished second.
The 2013 title carried the club into the AFC President's Cup the following year. Ugyen Academy came fourth in its group. Domestically that same season it again fell short at the top of the table, so 2014 gave the club both its first continental football and its first near miss.
The club grew out of a school side in Punakha. It plays at Lekeythang Football Field, also known as the Ugyen Academy Stadium, which holds 5,000.
Home shirts are blue with white sleeves; the away kit is orange with yellow shorts.
The task now is the one the club has faced since 2013.
