Football in Bhutan runs through the capital.
The club took the name of the place it plays in, and the nickname Thunderbolts came with it.
The club's most consequential decision arrived in the same season. Thimphu became the first Bhutanese club to hire a foreign coach, the Italian Fabio Lopes .
What followed was the closest the club has come to a title. Thimphu finished second in the Bhutan National League in 2015, behind FC Tertons.
Home is the Changlimithang Stadium .
The colours are simple enough to describe in a line: blue shirts and blue socks with white shorts at home, all black away.
