Tensung

The Royal Bhutan Army wanted a football side of its own, and in 2016 it got one. Tensung FC is the army's football arm, based in Wangdue Phodrang.

That distance shapes the club's football life more than anything else. Home is the MTC Ground, also called Lekeythang Football Field, which holds 1,500. But a good share of Tensung's matches are played at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, the national ground, where 15,000 can fit.

The one line in the record book comes from 2019, when Tensung won the Thimphu League. The timing matters: that same year the Thimphu League stopped being Bhutan's top division, the Bhutan Premier League having taken over above it. The title arrived as the competition it belonged to was being demoted.

In 2021 the team was managed by Denkar, the first woman to take charge of a side in the Bhutanese league, and so far the only one. Among the players who have come through the squad are the forward Sonam Phuntsho and the goalkeeper Tobgay Tobgay.

What Tensung has not done is win anything in the Bhutan Premier League.
