Lisle Carr Oval

Formerly: Whitebridge Oval

Whitebridge does not have much to work with in the way of grand history, and Lisle Carr Oval does not pretend otherwise. What it has is a night in March 2013, when the ground stopped being a suburban local-league pitch and became, for ninety minutes, a notable venue in Newcastle football. Newcastle Jets against Western Sydney Wanderers drew 22,518 through the gates that evening.

The rest of the year, the oval belongs to Charlestown Azzurri, who play their National Premier Leagues Northern NSW fixtures on the natural turf here. Before the club took its current name it played as Charlestown City Blues, and the ground itself carried an older name too, known for years simply as Whitebridge Oval before it became Lisle Carr Oval.

Lake Macquarie council put money into the site in April 2025, committing 275,000 Australian dollars towards floodlights and drainage work. Whether that work has been finished is not yet confirmed.

What the ground cannot offer is an origin story. No record turns up for when it was first laid out, and nothing explains whose name it carries.
