Ставангер built this in 2004 on ground that had no prior stadium history — a clean site in Jåttåvågen, ten kilometres south of the centre. Since opening it has answered to three names: Viking Stadion until 2018, then SR-Bank Arena, and since January 2025 Lyse Arena.

The capacity has moved in both directions rather than settling once. A new upper tier in 2006 pushed it to 16,600, the highest it has held; a further trim in 2018 brought it to the 15,900 it holds now. The record crowd, 16,600 for Viking against SK Brann in June 2007, belongs to that brief high-water period before the screens went in.

The pitch itself changed character in 2018, when natural grass gave way to an artificial surface after years of discussion. Norway's under-21 side has used the ground four times, most recently drawing Belgium 2-2 in November 2011. Off the football calendar, the arena has built a separate life as a concert venue, hosting Bob Dylan, Roger Waters, Bon Jovi in 2019, and Iron Maiden and Kaizers Orchestra in 2025 — a sideline that keeps the ground busy well outside the football season.
