Majaliwa Stadium

Namungo FC play in Ruangwa District, some way outside the town centre, and Majaliwa Stadium is built for a club used to being the only real football address for miles around. The ground itself tells that story before a ball is kicked: no rival stand, no derby down the road, just one pitch serving one district.

The venue takes its current shape from a rebuild finished in September 2022, when the ground reopened under the eye of Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, whose name it carries. Whatever stood there before is not well documented, and the club's history effectively restarts from that reopening rather than from any founding date on a plaque.

Capacity sits at around 4,000, modest even by regional standards, though a few databases list it lower, closer to 2,000. Either way, it is not a ground built for overflow crowds — it holds what Ruangwa needs it to hold, no more. The pitch is natural grass, unremarkable in itself, but worth noting in a country where synthetic surfaces have crept into lower-tier grounds.

What stands out is less the stadium than its position: a district-level ground carrying a prime minister's name, home to a club that has climbed through Tanzanian football with this pitch as its only base. There is no second stadium in Lindi region competing for the same fixtures, no shared tenancy, no history of the ground changing hands between clubs. Majaliwa Stadium belongs to Namungo FC in the plain sense that nothing else was ever competing for it.
