Stadium
Meadowbank Stadium
Formerly: Meadowbank Stadium
Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, opened it on 2 May 1970. Four years after that Meadowbank Thistle moved in and stayed until 1995, when the club left the city altogether for Livingston. Edinburgh City took the vacancy in 1996 and held it for two decades, until the stadium shut in December 2017.
Rugby passed through as well. Edinburgh Rugby played here from 2002 to 2004 before moving to Murrayfield .
Demolition of the main structures began in the early weeks of 2019, and what replaced them was a roughly £47m sports centre — running track, indoor athletics hall, gym, artificial pitches, sports halls — which opened to the public in July 2022. Edinburgh City came back that same year.
