No. 2 Sportsground
The ground shares a fence line with No. 1 Sportsground. What changed the balance was an $4.8 million rebuild that began on 6 February 2011 and finished on 6 September 2012: the old grandstand came down, terracing and undercover seating went up, lights were installed, and parking was cut for 284 cars. What the redevelopment did not resolve was the pitch, and that has become the ground's running argument with itself.
The natural grass drains better than anything else in Newcastle, but the turf itself has drawn enough criticism that Newcastle Jets moved several of their A-League Women fixtures elsewhere in 2024/25. A synthetic surface has been discussed. Hunter Wildfires arrived in 2020 for Shute Shield rugby, and Wanderers Rugby Club share it.
The 5,000 capacity has been tested twice in recent seasons. On 10 December 2023, 3,842 came for Newcastle Jets against Sydney FC. The ground has carried another name for a day: it was billed as No.6 Sportsground for selected matches in honour of Jets captain Cassidy Davis.
