Oakwell
The oldest thing still standing at Оуквелл is the West Stand, put up in 1904 and widened in 1910 to a design by Арчибальд Лейч.
Барнсли built the ground themselves in 1887, in the months after the club came into being, and opened it in 1888. There is no architect recorded for that first version — the work was done by the club's own people, and the record of it stops there.
The rebuilding came after Хиллсборо. Under the requirements of the Тейлор Report the terraces went and seats replaced them, one stand at a time rather than in a single season: the East Stand in 1993, the Norman Rimmington Stand at the south end in 1995, and the North Stand in 1999 at a cost of around £4.5 million.
The crowd figure the ground is measured against belongs to a much older Оуквелл: 40,225 against Стоук Сити on 15 February 1936. Between 1947 and 1951 the club drew 19,000 to 21,000 on an ordinary Saturday.
The Лейч stand has not had an uninterrupted life either. It was shut on safety grounds in September 2021, cutting the ground to 18,515, and reopened in January 2022. The grass is looked after with seed mixes chosen for the ground.
