Nothing sits underneath the "Old" in the name by accident. Polokwane built a new Peter Mokaba Stadium for the 2010 World Cup, and the ground it replaced kept the name with a prefix tacked on to mark the demotion.

It opened in 1976 as Pietersburg Stadium, under the town's former name.

Capacity runs to 15,000, on natural grass, and the ground has mostly hosted the tenants the bigger stadium had no room for. Polokwane City FC and Magesi FC play home fixtures here now; Baroka FC used it in an earlier spell, and Ria Stars FC were tenants before the club folded in 2002. None of that carries the weight of a World Cup host venue, and the old ground has never tried to compete on that score — it has simply kept working while the newer stadium took the fixtures that mattered to television schedules.

There's no stadium website; bookings run through the Polokwane municipality's own facilities page, which tells its own story about which of the two grounds the city treats as the flagship.
