Powhatan Stadium
Powhatan Stadium sits inside Old Dominion University's Lamberts Point campus, yet the city of Norfolk built it and still owns it. Under a 2004 agreement, the ground stays under municipal control until the lease runs out in 2038, when title passes to the university — an arrangement that keeps a city-owned venue inside private campus grounds for more than three decades.
The stadium opened in 2005 to give two long-standing city rivals, Maury and Granby high schools, a shared home ground, and both have played there ever since. Virginia Beach City FC, a club in the NPSL, joined the tenant list in 2019, while ODU uses the venue for recreational football and its own camps, and Norfolk's middle schools borrow the pitch as well.
The playing surface is artificial; the city and ODU split a $900,000 bill in 2018 to replace it. Holding 2,800 people, Powhatan is built to the scale of high school football rather than college crowds, which suits its role as a shared civic field rather than a marquee venue. The name traces back to the Powhatan people and the historic region of the same name, not to any sponsor, and no naming-rights deal has ever attached itself to the stadium.
