Virginia Atlantic FC exists because a men's club decided its women's side deserved the same name. Virginia Beach City FC, running since 2013, had fielded a women's team under Virginia Beach United; in 2025 that side entered the USL W League on its own footing, and by May 2026 the parent club folded both teams into a single identity, Virginia Atlantic FC, keeping the crest and colours the women's side had already been playing in.

The club plays out of Norfolk, at Powhatan Stadium, which holds 2,800 — a ground scaled to a league still building its following rather than chasing crowds. The 2025 season was the team's first as a league member, and it opened with a fixture against Virginia Beach United, a match billed locally as a meeting of crosstown rivals, though no name for that fixture has stuck the way local derbies elsewhere have.

There is no silverware to report. In its early standings the side finished mid-table in the Chesapeake Division — fifth in 2026 — the kind of position a first-generation club settles into while it works out who it is. That work is still visible in the gaps around the club: no fixed nickname has taken hold since the rebrand, and no single, confirmed colour scheme has replaced the mix of royal blue and ocean-toned blues worn under the old name.
