USL W League (United States) 2026/27

The USL W League operates as a pre-professional women's soccer competition within the United States. It occupies a unique position in the national landscape because it lacks sanctioning from the U.S. Soccer Federation and holds no official division number in the pyramid. The league functions primarily as a developmental platform, allowing collegiate athletes to maintain NCAA eligibility by playing during the summer without professional salaries. It shares its name with a defunct predecessor but possesses no historical continuity with that semi-professional entity.

Structureally, the competition has expanded significantly, growing from a small number of participants to numerous teams arranged across four regional conferences. The season format involves a regular schedule followed by a 16-team playoff tournament that concludes with a national final. The league distinguishes itself from other amateur competitions through its heavy integration with the USL men's ecosystem, with many franchises operating as reserve sides or women's branches of existing USL League One and League Two clubs.

Indy Eleven holds the record for the most titles, having secured victories in the inaugural 2022 season and the 2023 championship. North Carolina Courage U23 claimed the 2024 crown, while Utah United won in 2025. Salmon Bay FC currently holds the 2026 title. The competition does not feature promotion or relegation to professional tiers such as the NWSL or the USL Super League. Attendance figures for recent finals have varied, with one match drawing a stadium-record crowd and another setting a local record for women's soccer in Indiana.
