Chattanooga sits at the foot of Lookout Mountain, a city that has built a fair amount of its civic identity around outdoor sport and a working river town's appetite for a fight. Football arrived there formally in 2018 with a men's side, and a year later the club added a women's team, playing its debut season in the WPSL under the Lady Red Wolves name.

That first campaign produced a Southeastern Conference title, and the club took the same crown again in 2021, a stretch that gave the young side something to point to before it had much else. In June of that year, the Lady Red Wolves left the WPSL altogether to become a founding member of the newly formed USL W League, stepping into their first season there in 2022. The move hasn't yet brought a trophy: a second-place finish in the South Central division that year, then a season in 2023 that ended without a playoff spot.

Luke Winter ran the side from 2020 through 2025, long enough to carry it through the league switch and the lean years that followed; Danny McBride takes over from 2026. Among the players who've worn the shirt, Carlie Banks featured in that inaugural 2019 season and Kate Dirkse was part of the 2022 squad that just missed the playoffs.

The men's club plays Chattanooga FC in a rivalry that dates to April 2025, though the women's fixtures against Birmingham Legion, Asheville City and One Knoxville carry their own weight within the division. Both Red Wolves sides share CHI Memorial Stadium, known locally as Finley Stadium, a ground that holds 5,500 for football and can be reconfigured for concerts up to 12,000 — a reminder that in Chattanooga, the stadium does more than one job for the city.
