«The Mighty Oak»
Every goal Ann Arbor Women score gets planted back into the ground, under a programme the club calls "Goals for Trees." It is the detail that explains the nickname, The Mighty Oak, and it says something about how the club sees itself: less a stepping stone than something meant to stay rooted where it is.
The women's side came together in 2019, four years after the men's team, as one of the founding entries in the inaugural season of the USL W League — the pre-professional tier that has since become the main pathway for American college players wanting summer minutes against senior opposition.
No silverware has come the women's way yet in the W League. The colours, navy blue and sky blue, tie the women's team visually to the men's side, under the same AFC Ann Arbor badge.
The club continues through another W League season working from that same identity: a summer side built to give players a stage before they move on, playing in front of Saline crowds, still counting its goals in trees.
