The ground came as a gift. China's government paid for it and handed it over to Jordan in the late twentieth century, which is why a city of Zarqa's size, some 25 km up the road from Amman, ended up with a 17,000-seat arena in the Al Batrawi district.

Its busiest period arrived with the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup . Prince Mohammad Stadium took group-stage fixtures, and the artificial turf now in use was laid as part of that overhaul. The Greater Amman Municipality put out tenders worth JD 5.98 million in 2015 covering the tournament's venues, King Abdullah International Stadium and Khreibet Al Souk Stadium among them.

Al-Sarhan, Ma'an SC and Ittihad Al-Ramtha have all used it, cup ties bring Al-Faisaly, Al-Ahli, Shabab Al-Ordon and Al-Jazeera, and the Jordan national side — the men's, women's and youth teams — plays here regularly.
