Rabindra Sarobar Stadium

Rabindra Sarobar Stadium takes its everyday name, Lake Stadium, from the water it sits beside — the ground is in Dhakuria, and that setting has shaped its history as much as anything built on the pitch. When floodlit football returned there for the 2016 Indian Super League season, environmental campaigners took the matter to court, arguing the lights would disturb birdlife on the lake. The challenge was dismissed, and the fixtures went ahead.

That ISL run began on 2 October 2016, when Atlético de Kolkata used the stadium as a stand-in home while Salt Lake Stadium was shut for rebuilding — the same arrangement that, seven years later, would put Rabindra Sarobar back into service during preparations for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. Mohun Bagan followed the same pattern through 2016–17, playing AFC Cup qualifiers here, including a 2–1 win over Colombo FC, before reaching that year's Federation Cup final off the back of matches staged at the ground.

The stadium's clearest mark on Kolkata football, though, came on 9 April 2017, when Mohun Bagan hosted East Bengal in an I-League derby and drew 23,859 spectators — still the record crowd for the venue. Owned by the West Bengal government and handed over to the Indian Football Association in 2009, with Mohammedan Sporting also listed among its operators, the ground otherwise does its quieter, regular work as a home for the Calcutta Football League.
