RTC Football Ground
Thimphu, Bhutan
RTC Football Ground sits quietly on the campus of the Royal Thimphu College. The pitch itself is artificial turf, a detail confirmed by the Bhutan Football Federation in their official match previews, even if older European databases still list it as natural grass.
The ground does not host the big events. Finals and international tournaments stay at the Changlimithang National Stadium, leaving RTC to serve as a working venue for the Bhutan Premier League qualifiers and play-offs. Over the years, it has seen teams come and go: Tensung FC, Thimphu Raven FC, and the BFF Academy have all used its synthetic strip. When Thimphu City FC needed a pitch and the main stadiums were unavailable, they came here too.
The campus was built in phases between 2007 and 2012 by Phuensum Builders Private Limited, but the specific moment the football pitch opened is lost to time. There is no record of an inauguration, no grand opening ceremony. The primary tenant, Royal Thimphu College FC, plays its games here, though the club’s history is tied to the college rather than a stadium legacy. Youth matches, including U-19 fixtures for the national team, also take place on this patch of grass, away from the noise of the city centre.
There are no attendance records kept for specific matches here, no stories of record-breaking crowds. It is a ground defined by its function, not its fame.
