Seoul World Cup Stadium (Sangam Stadium)

Seoul World Cup Stadium opened on 10 November 2001, with the design credited to architect Ryu Choon-soo and his firm I-gong.

The bowl originally held just over 66,800 seats; a February 2014 refit trimmed that to the current 66,704 by adding VIP boxes, press seating and hospitality tables, a change that shrank the total while adding value further up the stand. All seating is fixed and covered, with 806 VIP seats, 754 press positions and 75 private suites worked into the upper tiers.

The pitch itself was rebuilt more recently. For years the natural grass struggled with drainage and took a beating from concerts as much as football, so in 2021–2022 the ground switched to a hybrid surface that reinforces turf with synthetic fibre, a fix aimed squarely at wear and water rather than at changing how the game plays on it.

Day-to-day running falls to the Seoul Metropolitan Facilities Management Corporation, which handles the stadium alongside the wider Sangam sports and leisure complex around it — the name most Seoul residents still use for the ground, informally, even though it has never carried a sponsor's name.
