Shahid Mahdavi Stadium

The ground in Bushehr has a peculiar history, built on a plot that swallowed eleven years of labour. Construction began in 2006, yet the pitch was not ready for play until 2017. It is a place that sits on 18 hectares of land, a size that suggests ambition, though the capacity remains modest at 15,000.

The surface is natural grass. Around the field runs an eight-lane tartan track. The lighting towers stand tall, casting 1,200 lux onto the turf, but it is the scoreboard that draws the eye, a modest forty square meters.

The name carries weight. It was not always called Shahid Mahdavi Stadium. During those long years of building, it was known simply as the 15,000-seat Bushehr Stadium. Ahmad Behroozianfar, who served as the Director General of Sports and Youth for the province, oversaw the project while the costs climbed toward 48 billion Rials.

The stadium does not boast of its age, for it is still young. The sources argue over the exact day it opened, but the date matters less than the fact that it stands there now. Shahin Bushehr plays its matches here, competing in the Persian Gulf Pro League.
