Soffy Road
The name is a joke about an address. Vejgaard Boldspilklub moved onto Sofievej 31 in 1980, and the ground that came with the move ended up known as Soffy Road — an English-sounding turn on the Danish street name, Sophie Road. It has stuck, even through a spell when the place carried the sponsor's title Spar Nord Arena.
Before that, the club had spent fifty-five years, from its founding in 1925, at Vejgaard Stadion, a ground the district knew simply as Hullet — The Hole. The plans for the new one went through in April 1980, signed off by the mayor of Aalborg, Marius Andersen, and the ground has had the same single tenant ever since.
What that means in practice is a football field in the Vejgaard district of Aalborg and very little else: grass, no running track, no floodlights.
The busiest night on record came on 27 September 2017, when FC Nordsjælland arrived for a third-round tie in the Danish Cup and 1,005 people came through the gates. Vejgaard lost. The cup has brought AaB here too, and Hobro IK in 2024. The other date the club still refers back to is 1985, when the sixtieth anniversary was marked with a celebrity match and Michael Laudrup played on this pitch.
