Aalborg has a bigger club. The traffic runs the other way too: Lasse Nielsen, later of AaB, Gent and Malmö FF, learned the game here, and so did Jakob Blåbjerg, another defender who ended up in the AaB back four. The neighbouring club takes the players; Vejgaard keeps the claim on where they started.

Which is why the Danish Cup tie in 2019 mattered more than the division it was played from. Superliga side Hobro IK came to Vejgaard and lost 2-1 — the sort of evening a club of this size gets once and talks about for years afterwards.

Three years earlier there had been promotion to the 2nd Division, settled by Martin Sloth-Hansen's winning goal in the play-off final. Christian Flindt Bjerg took the side over the following year and stayed until 2020, when Nickolaj Jonstrup replaced him.

Home is Soffy Road, a ground built for standing rather than sitting; the crowd is on its feet by default, not by occasion. The shirt is white, the shorts and socks blue.

The Flindt Bjerg name reaches back further than the coaching bench. Christian's father, Ove Flindt Bjerg, one of the recognised figures of Danish football, began at Vejgaard in the 1950s — three decades into the life of a club founded on 22 November 1925.
