Somerset Park

Somerset Park has stood on the same ground since 1888, first laid out for cricket before football took it over. Ayr United came into being in 1910, when Ayr FC merged with Ayr Parkhouse, and the club has played nowhere else since.

The Railway End got its roof in 1933, and the Somerset Road End followed decades later, in 1971, at a cost of £12,000. Floodlights arrived in November 1970. None of this happened at once; the ground grew in pieces, stand by stand, over the better part of a century.

The record crowd, 25,225, came for Rangers on 13 September 1969 — a figure the current capacity of 10,185 makes hard to picture. The highest capacity the ground ever held was 12,128, reached in 1989 after the main stand gained a new wing.

In 2001, Somerset Park became the first ground in Britain to host a match in the UEFA Women's Cup, staging a four-team group that included Ayr United Ladies among the hosts.

The most recent work closed out in 2024, with the North Stand rebuilt to include hospitality suites and a covered terrace. Storm damage to the roofs had needed repair a decade earlier, in 2011 and 2012, alongside a change of floodlights. The pitch remains natural grass, as it has throughout the ground's history.
