Söndrums IP is not the ground BK Astrio grew up on. When the Söndrum ground opened in August 2002 it was a new build on new land.
That matters for how the place feels. The artificial surface — the ground is listed in some quarters as Söndrums IP Konstgräs, and locals use the name interchangeably — was laid from the start rather than dropped in later over a worn grass pitch.
Halmstad municipality owns and maintains it. The practical effect is a ground that runs on the council's schedule.
