Sportanlage Breinig (Sportplatz Schützheide)
Breinig (Stolberg), Germany
Formerly: no former names found
Breinig only became part of Stolberg in 1972, and the pitch at Schützheide belongs firmly to the village side of that arrangement: it sits apart from the district's older grounds, purpose-built rather than inherited, and has served the same club since it opened in 1997. SV 1910 Breinig Breinigerberg plays there, and the ground has carried more than routine league fixtures — regional rounds of the DFB-Pokal have been staged on the artificial pitch, and Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 sides, among them Borussia Mönchengladbach and Alemannia Aachen, have turned out for friendlies against the home club, a scale of visitor a ground of this size rarely sees twice.
The surface itself marks a break in the ground's history: natural grass gave way to artificial turf during work completed around 2014, a change the local council recorded at the time as part of a wider push to convert the town's pitches. Capacity stands at 3,000, modest against the traffic the visiting Bundesliga names briefly brought through the turnstiles, and the ground doubled as the setting for the club's centenary celebrations in 2010, marking a century since SV Breinig's founding in 1910.
No sponsor name has ever attached itself to the ground — it remains Sportplatz Schützheide in official use, plain and unchanged since 1997, and no record of an earlier name at this site has surfaced.
