Sportplatz Auguststraße

A street runs through the middle of it. Kleine Hamburger Straße cuts the playing area in two, which is why the ground carries a second address alongside its own — and why visitors turn up at the gate on the corner of Linienstraße expecting something more conventional. Look up from the touchline and the Berlin television tower stands over the rooftops, a view that has made Sportplatz Auguststraße a fixture on the itineraries of groundhoppers working their way through Mitte.

The pitch exists because the war left the land empty. It was laid out on ground cleared by bombing and has been in use ever since.

That continuity was not guaranteed. In the 1990s developers moved on the site with plans for housing, and residents of the neighbourhood organised against them. The campaign held, and the pitch stayed where it was.

Football here is SV Blau-Weiß Berolina Mitte 49, seventh tier, playing in front of a mostly standing crowd. The exception came on 18 August 2024, when Tennis Borussia Berlin arrived for a Berlin Cup tie and 488 people came through the gate. Tennis Borussia won 6:0.

The artificial surface was worked on again in September 2025, part of a wider round of improvements across the district.
