Stade Marc Burdet

The pitch at Route de Vireloup sits well outside the centre of Collex-Bossy, and the club has never needed to call it anything grander than the name of the man who gave it to them. Marc Burdet was honorary president of FC Collex-Bossy, and it was his donation that put the ground in the club's hands in 1966 — the attestation still sits among the club's official records, a piece of paperwork rather than a plaque, but it explains why the stadium carries a person's name instead of the commune's.

Nothing about the place has pushed it toward expansion since. The capacity holds at nine hundred, enough for a village side and its opponents on a Sunday afternoon, and the natural turf gets the ordinary maintenance a pitch of that size needs rather than the attention a stadium built for bigger crowds would demand. Floodlights let the club run evening fixtures, which matters more here than the number of seats does — Collex-Bossy is a small commune, and training and match nights sharing the same ground under lights is simply how a club this size keeps its calendar moving through the autumn and winter.

There is little pretence to the setting, and none of the reconstruction history that follows stadiums built for tournaments or promotions. It has stayed the ground Marc Burdet handed over, doing the job he intended for it.
