Stade Raymond Kopa
The ground in Angers carries three names before the one it wears now, and each renaming marks a change of hands. It began as Stade Bessonneau, built for the workers of a local industrialist, before the city took it over in 1957 and called it, plainly, Stade Municipal. Eleven years later it became Stade Jean-Bouin, honouring the French runner who took silver at the 1912 Olympics.
The rebuild that gave the stadium its present shape and its current name ran through the two ends, Saint-Léonard and Colombier, with work on the Colombier stand starting as early as 2016 under the architect Bruno Huet and continuing into 2023. For part of the 2017–18 season, with one stand shut for construction, capacity dropped to around 13,000. It now holds 19,800.
The pitch itself is not ordinary turf. It runs on AirFibr, a hybrid surface that reinforces natural grass with a synthetic root layer woven through with fibres, cork and sand.
The city of Angers owns the stadium; Angers SCO runs it.
