Match report
Angers secured a 2-0 victory over Troyes at the Stade Raymond Kopa on Saturday evening. The result keeps them in the hunt for European qualification spots. And here's the thing, consistency matters more than flash in this division.
Prosper Peter struck first at the 42nd minute to give the home side the lead. Amine Sbaï extended that advantage in the 57th minute to seal the three points. Earlier, Amine El Ouazzani thought he had equalised but his effort was ruled out by VAR in the 51st minute. To be fair, the offside call stood up under review.
The hosts dominated the midfield with 61 per cent of the ball. They registered 2.25 expected goals compared to Troyes' 1.02. The visitors created more corners but struggled to find a way through the back line. By then, the momentum had shifted firmly in Angers' favour.
Troyes introduced Noah Donkor and Timothee Nkada at the break in an attempt to change the dynamic. They also brought on Mouhamed Diop for the same reason. The coach pulled the strings but the defensive structure had already fractured.
We had called for a home win with 85 per cent confidence before kickoff. It wasn't a tactical masterclass, but it was a practical result. You take what you are given when the opponent is not at their best.
Both clubs remain level on four points after five matches. Angers sit 11th while Troyes are just below them in 12th place. The season is young but the hierarchy is becoming clearer.
