The new venture took its name from both halves of that union, settling into the Parc des Princes as its home.

The identity that followed came together deliberately rather than by accident. In 1973, president Daniel Hechter commissioned the shirt still worn today: dark blue with a broad red stripe down the centre, picked out in white. The crest carries an Eiffel Tower in red on a blue disc, a gold fleur-de-lis beneath it, and the club's name around the rim. That civic claim hardens into the motto stitched into the club's language: "Ici, c'est Paris" — here, it's Paris.

The trophy count reflects two distinct eras rather than one steady climb. PSG's domestic silverware is heavily front-loaded toward the 2010s and 2020s: 14 Ligue 1 titles, the most recent run stretching from 2013 through to 2025–26, and a record 16 Coupe de France wins, the last in 2025. The Trophée des Champions has gone to Paris 14 times, beginning with a match played in January 1996 for the 1995 edition and continuing through to 2025.
