The Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps is an 18,541 all-seater since the 2015 rebuild, down from a peak of 24,493 in the days of terracing.

Auxerre started out as a patronage side attached to Saint Joseph's, playing under the banner of the FGSPF gymnastics and sports federation before switching to the FFF in 1920. It turned professional only in 1980.

In front of goal, the professional-era scoring record belongs to Stéphane Guivarc'h, though it is a Pole, Andrzej Szarmach, who leads the all-time Ligue 1 tally for the club with 94.

Local rivalries run along the region's roads rather than the league table.
