Stade Yvan Georges

Before Royal Excelsior Virton built anything here, this was marsh — Pré Jacquet, low ground that had to be drained and raised with fill before a pitch could sit on it. Albert Iserentant, the club's founder and first president, put up the first wooden changing rooms himself. The stadium takes its name not from the founder but from Yvan Georges, a later club president who died in 1945, which tells you something about how this club keeps its history close rather than swapping it out for sponsors or civic branding.

The naming has stuck since 1925, unlike grounds a short drive away that have gone through two or three identities in the same span. Virton sits in Luxembourg province, in a corner of Wallonia where a club spending its seasons in Challenger Pro League is the biggest sporting fixture the town has, and the ground has never needed to be more than that — no expansion for a European run, no redevelopment for a bid it never made.

Capacity sits close to 4,600, depending on which count you trust, which is the kind of small discrepancy that turns up at grounds that have never had a reason to commission a precise recount. The pitch is natural grass, unremarkable in itself, but consistent with a ground that has spent a century being maintained rather than rebuilt.
