The stadium took its current name from the man who ran the club longer than anyone else. Until 1994 it was known simply as Stadio di Monterosso, after the district where it sits. That year it was rededicated to Marchese Alfredo d'Albertas, A.C. Gozzano's longest-serving president, and the club has played under his name at Via Madonna di Luzzara ever since.

For decades the ground stayed modest, built in 1950 and largely unchanged, the kind of place where a few hundred seats did the job. That changed between 2018 and 2019, when the club pushed through a full rebuild of the side stands. Two new metal stands went up on concrete bases, adding roughly 1,300 seats and pushing capacity past 1,500. The work went further than seating: new dressing rooms, a proper press room, and pitchside positions for journalists in the main stand, along with new entrance gates and concrete barriers around the perimeter. The club has described the cost only as extremely high, without putting a figure on it.

The rebuild left one gap. When the main construction phase wrapped up in spring 2019, the stadium still had no floodlights, and Lega Pro had to grant a temporary dispensation just to let matches go ahead there. The pitch itself has stayed a straightforward natural grass surface throughout, the one constant while the stands around it were torn up and rebuilt.
