Stadio Pierluigi Penzo

The Pierluigi Penzo sits on an island in the Sant'Elena district, at the eastern tip of Venice, with water on more than one side — there is no other way to reach it than on foot through the city or along the Fondamenta itself. That alone sets it apart from almost every ground in Italy. Opened in 1913, it trails only Genoa's Luigi Ferraris as the oldest football stadium still in use in the country, and more than a century of matches has left it looking like part of the old city rather than a modern facility bolted onto it.

The ground belongs to the municipality, and Venezia FC runs it under a long-term concession rather than owning it outright — a common arrangement for clubs playing in historic, land-locked cities where building a new stadium is simply not an option. A renovation ahead of the club's return to Serie A brought the ground up to the standard needed for top-flight football, though the pitch itself remains the natural grass it has always had.

The capacity, just above twelve thousand, keeps the Penzo among the smallest grounds in Italian top-flight football, and that scale, paired with its setting, makes it feel closer to a neighbourhood ground than an arena built to host a major club.
