Stadion Neubauernweg

The ground sits in Schönau, and it belongs to the part of a club most people never see: the academy. Before a player reaches the first team at Chemnitzer FC, they pass through here — the U17 and C-Junioren sides train and play on the grass at Neubauernweg, and the women's team of Chemnitzer FC has made it their home ground, as has the reserve side, Chemnitzer FC 1966 II – Frauen.

What the site offers is less a stadium than a working complex. Alongside the main pitch there is a smaller field with lighting, a mini-field and an indoor artificial-turf hall. The main pitch itself has no floodlights, so senior fixtures and youth matches are tied to daylight. Nor is there a running track between the touchline and the terracing, which puts the thousand or so spectators the ground holds close enough to hear the instructions being shouted from the technical area. Most of what is played here is local and regional youth football, week in and week out. The exception comes when the women's side is drawn at home in the DFB-Pokal and a club from elsewhere in Germany arrives at a ground built for development rather than for occasions — the sort of tie where the home team can spring a surprise.

Neubauernweg forms one corner of the wider Chemnitzer Sportforum, the sporting district that grew up around the old Südkampfbahn.
