Chemnitzer FC Women

When the works team of BSG Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt won the DDR-Bestenermittlung in 1980, the competition was the closest thing to a national championship the GDR ran, and Karl-Marx-Stadt kept turning up in its later rounds — runners-up in 1983, 1985 and 1987, then again in 1990, with the Pokal des demokratischen Frauenbundes collected in 1988.

Reunification changed the address rather than the side. Chemnitzer FC took the section on in 1990, and the team spent the final GDR Oberliga season, 1990/91, finishing fifth. What followed was regional: champions of Saxony in 1992/93, and four more times after that, the last in 2010/11, by which point the division had slipped from the third tier to the fourth.

The women's and girls' game only became a department of its own in 2021, with its own structure inside the club rather than a wing of it. Three DFB-Pokal campaigns followed almost immediately, and none of them lasted long — Fortuna Köln, Hegauer FV and Blau-Gelb Marburg all went through, the last of those in a qualifying round.

The Saxony Cup has been kinder. Chemnitz reached the 2023/24 final and lost it to RB Leipzig II, then carved a route back to the 2025/26 showpiece by beating Dynamo Dresden 3-0.

Home is Stadion Neubauernweg in Chemnitz-Schönau, a ground for 1,000. The sky blue and white is shared with the men's side, as is the badge; there is only one club.

The team plays in the Landesliga Sachsen, four tiers down, where the fixtures against Erzgebirge Aue and Zwickau carry the same edge they do everywhere else in the region. The Saxony Cup final on 1 May 2026 is the immediate business.
